NextPlays is a platform for sustainable transformation. The NextPlays Lab is a mapping, idea generation platform and planning lab that helps organizations build strategies for positive and plausible futures.
Each Lab produces a Pathway that identifies your distinct sustainability vision and maps new and improved projects of how you can get there.
A fast-paced and flexible program, the NextPlays Lab combines global best practice with leading thinking. A vital ingredient of the Labs is seventy sustainability case studies you can read on this site. They help focus Lab participants, idea generation and planning.

Developing the right foundations for the Lab is important. We advise on the assembly of strong multi-disciplinary teams to participate in NextPlays Labs. In addition Participant organizations are also helped in development of a Lab briefing and supporting material for the context.
Each Lab is divided into four sections:
1. Context
Context is presented at each NextPlays Lab by using current social attitudes personas and a range of plausible future scenarios. A number of specific impacts and opportunities are isolated for further exploration.
2. Mapping
Mapping creates a snapshot of your organization and known competitor and industry activities. It helps see the approach or patterns being implemented and looks for best case solutions and areas for further opportunity.
3. Idea generation
A large range of ideas are explored across your business model by considering NextPlays case studies and NextPlays seven core approaches or Plays.
Ideas are plotted on The Playing Field to diagnose the value of the approaches based on number of social and environmentally sustainable outcomes.
4. Planning
Ideas are prioritized and organized into a small distinct number of new or improved projects. The Sustainability Pathway plots future actions over the short, medium and long term, Clusters, hedges and isolates a small number of solutions to manage or turn future issues to your advantage.
Pathways are a prototype for your organization’s sustainable transformation.
a. Recommendations Report
Each participating organization receives a follow up Recommendations Report that critiques the Sustainable Pathway completed during the Lab and suggests improvements, identifies probable issues and likely personnel responsible for guiding sustainability projects within your organization.
b. Alumni
NextPlays Lab Alumni get access to continued support and consulting through our network of sustainability opinion leaders and practitioners. This website has a password-protected alumni area that provides access to Lab materials, reports, hundreds of new case studies and hosts a growing alumni community.

We're stoked that Biolite won SB10's Sustainable Innovation award, announced on the last day of the conference. Jonathan Cedar, co-inventor and the nascent company's CEO delivered a great presentation that made clear the significant impact that could be achieved if Biolite (and stoves like it) replace traditional wood-fired stoves in the developing world. The Biolite stove reinvents stoves used for home cooking in Asia, Africa and Latin America by making the burning process more efficient. The greater efficiency the less fuel is used and less smoke is generated. Less smoke, the less harm to the health of the cooks. Biolite has an additional feature; they've developed a process that converts a small part of the thermal energy into electricity. This means that users can recharge electrical devices while cooking, and that's got to be good for developing world users facing regular megacity brown outs, or for those who are off the grid completely.
